"Who said I can't put a man in the cage? Before I ran my own gang I was a Maggia enforcer. Know how I got to the top? Head first!"

Summary

When left for dead in an alleyway after a brawl, a surgeon found Joseph and operated to fix him up, replacing his broken skull with an steel plate.

Upon waking up, Joseph had no recollection of his prior life, and thus taking the name of Hammerhead, he became one of the most feared hitman working for the Maggia, clashing with other heroes like Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and Daredevil.

Later on during the Civil War event, Hammerhead formed his own gang to fight over the power vacuum left by the incarceration of Kingpin, leading to him getting an Adamantium Skeleton inbuilt in him.
