Summary
Mark Raxton worked at Oscorp as a lab assistant to Spencer Smythe, helping him invent a new liquid metal alloy from the remains of a radioactive meteor, but then tried to steal it and sell it for his own gain. When Spencer confronts him, Mark ends up spilling the liquid onto his body, turning his skin into a gold metallic material in addition to giving him super-strength and the power to generate heat.
Using his new abilities to commit crimes, Mark becomes the Molten Man, soon becoming a recurring enemy of Spider-Man, but later changes his focus to finding a cure for his condition when it begins gradually burning his skin away.
